Selecting Transactions for Revaluation
Ledger Revaluation recalculates the target currency value on each of the ledger transactions you choose to revalue, using the exchange rate for the revaluation period. For example, it can recalculate the base currency values from the transaction currency values, for all outstanding transactions on debtor/receivables accounts.
Use Ledger Revaluation Profiles (LEP) to define the selection criteria for transactions that must be revalued. You can select the transactions you want to revalue using any combination of the following criteria:
- Account Type
- Account Code
- Journal Type
- Journal Number
- Currency Code
- Accounting Period.
Selecting by Account Type
If you choose to restrict the transaction selection by account type, only transactions for accounts with the selected account types are revalued.
The Suppress Revaluation field in Chart of Accounts (COA) overrides the account type selections. This means that if the Suppress Revaluation option is set for an account, its transactions are excluded from the revaluation process, even though the account may have an account type that is selected for revaluation.
Selecting the Period for Revaluation
For profit and loss accounts, only transactions with an accounting period that falls within the revaluation period range are selected. For other account types, all transactions with an accounting period up to and including a single revaluation period are included.
So, for profit and loss accounts, only the currency movement for the range of accounting periods is generated. Whereas for balance sheet accounts, the entire balance of the account is revalued.
Excluding Transactions from Revaluation
Ledger Revaluation excludes individual transactions with any of the following allocation markers: Allocated, Paid, Paid Unmatched or Correction.
You can also exclude transactions from the revaluation process:
- for an account by setting the Suppress Revaluation option for the account in Chart of Accounts (COA)
- for a journal type by setting the Exclude from Revaluation option for the journal type in Journal Types (JNT).
Excluding True Rated Transactions
If you use true rated transactions then any ledger transactions marked as true rated are excluded when revaluing Value 2 against Value 4.
However, the true rated status of a transaction is ignored in all other currency revaluation scenarios, such as revaluing Value 1 against Value 2. In this case, any true rated transactions are included in the revaluation (providing there are no other criteria that exclude them, such as those described above in Excluding Transactions from Revaluation).
