Which Analysis Codes are Required?
Each journal transaction can contain up to ten analysis codes. Some, or all, of these codes can be predetermined for a transaction in a variety of ways, or they can be entered manually.
There is no limit to the number of analysis dimensions that can be created in SunSystems. Only analysis dimensions that have been linked to the Ledger entity using Analysis Structure (ANS) can be referenced on ledger transactions. In addition, only ten of these can be entered on any one journal transaction.
The Journal Types (JNT) identifies the analysis dimensions that apply to a particular type of journal, and only these dimensions are prompted for during Ledger Entry (LEN). Journal Presets (JNP) can be used to predefine default codes for any of these dimensions, for a type of journal.
Analysis requirements can also be defined for particular ledger accounts using Chart of Accounts (COA). These analysis dimensions override those set for a journal type. As a result, you may be prompted to enter certain analysis dimensions on one transaction line, and different ones on the next line depending on the journal type and account code requirements.
Entering Analysis Codes
If a code has not been preset, you can enter a valid analysis code for a dimension. The analysis codes are created in Analysis Codes (ANC).
You cannot enter codes that have been flagged with Prohibit Posting in Analysis Codes.
If, in Analysis Dimensions (AND), the Validation Method is set to No Validation for a particular dimension, then you can enter any code.
Sequence Numbering
Sequence numbers can be applied to transactions automatically and these are held in the Transactions Dimension analysis dimension identified in Ledger Setup (LES). If transaction sequence codes have been defined using Ledger Sequences (LEQ) and the Update Sequence field is set to Manual, you are prompted to enter the sequence number. You must enter a number in the analysis dimension associated with sequence numbers. See Understanding Ledger Sequence Numbering.
