Creating a KPI
KPI values are presented in different arrangements based on the reporting configuration in the application. When creating a KPI, you must set the Data Input Configuration.
- On the SPE home page, select Administration > KPIs and Metrics > KPIs.
- Click + to create a new KPI.
- Specify this information:
- KPI name
- Provide a name for the KPI.
- KPI code
- Specify a code for the KPI. The KPI code is required to connect the KPI to a datapoint.
- Target Owner
-
Specify the name of the target owner who is responsible for setting the KPI targets and monitoring the reported values from different parts of the organization.
Note: If you cannot find a user in the Target Owner field, contact the administrator to ensure that the user has the SPE-ProgramManager role in IFS.
- Category
- Specify the category associated with the KPI which refers to the assigned metric category.
- Unit of measure
- Specify the unit of measure to associate with the KPI. The selected unit of measure is the default UoM when setting targets and displaying reported values
- Preferred values
- Select a preferred value of the KPI which are used to monitor if the metric values are high, low, or neutral.
- Input Method
- Select one of these options:
- Enter values manually: KPI values are specified manually.
- Aggregate by metric structure: KPI values are automatically calculated based on a predefined metric structure.
Note: To select Aggregate by metric structure, there must be an existing metric structure.See Creating a metric structure.
- Use formula for calculation: Use this option to create and maintain formulas for calculating KPI values. This option is useful for more advanced calculations such as emissions, conversions, or multiplying and dividing metrics and KPIs.
- To create a KPI using the Enter values manually field, select the Enter values manually in the Input Method field.
- Create a KPI using the Aggregate by metric structure field:
- In the Input Method field, select Aggregate by metric structure.
- Select an active item in the Metric structure field.
Note: You can select an active metric structure with a unit of measure matching the KPI type. Do not link a KPI to a metric structure or to another KPI that depends on the KPI that you edit to avoid errors.
- Create a KPI using the Use formula for calculation field:
- In the Input Method field, select Use formula for calculation.
- To display the Expression Builder window, click + Create formula.
- To build a formula, select one or more values in these columns:
- KPIs & Metrics: Click + for one or more items in this column to add them in your formula.
- Energy and Emission Factors: Click + for one or more items in this column to add them in your formula. To view the value of the Energy & Emission Factors, click the ellipsis icon and select Administration > Settings > Energy & Emission Factors.
- Operators: Select one or more basic arithmetic operators.
Note: The calculation follows the Parentheses, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction (PMDAS) precedence. You can also customize the expression builder.
(KPI1+ KPI2) * Emission Factor- Numeric constant: Specify a fixed value to use for the conversion and click + to add the item to the formula.
Note: Do not link a KPI through a formula or to another KPI that depends on the KPI that you edit to avoid errors. - Click Apply to close the window.
- Click Save.
Note: An error message is displayed if an invalid syntax in the formula is used. To correct an operator or an element in the formula, right - click the item and click Delete.
