Product Supersession
The Supersession - replace products screen enables you to replace one product with another product. This screen can be accessed when you right-click a card on the Selection panel and click the option from the content menu.
The Supersession - replace products screen contains these sections:
- Products to be replaced
- Replacement products
- Replacement details
Products to be replaced
You can use this section to select the products that you require to replace. If the selected card contains a product, the product is displayed. Else, you can click the option to search and select the required products. The selected products are added to the list when you click .
- Multiple products can be selected in Products to be replaced section, when the Replacement products section contains zero or one replacement product. Else, only one product can be selected to be replaced.
- You must select at least one product to complete the replacement.
Replacement products
You can use this section to select the products that replace the items listed in the ‘’Products to replaced’’ section. You can select the + Products list menu and click one of these options:
- : Enables you to create a new product. You must specify the code of the product in the Enter new product code field and click . When the validation is successful, you can click . The selected product is added to the list.
- : Enables you to search for a specific product. You can select the required product from the list and click .
Note:
- When multiple products are selected in Product to be replaced section, you can select only one replacement product.
- When a single product is selected to be replaced, you can select multiple replacement products.
Replacement details
You can use this section to configure additional settings for the supersession link. You can specify this information:
- Discontinue replaced products
- If this check box is selected, you can specify a discontinuation date for each product selected in the Products to be replaced section.
- Discontinuation date

The date when the replaced (predecessor) product is inactive.
Note:
- This date overwrites existing discontinuation date.
- If the product is a part of multiple supersession chains, the latest discontinuation date is used.
- History factor

The proportion of historical demand from the predecessor to transfer to the successor during supersession processing.
Note:
- The history factor is applied during history transfer to the base replacement planning entity.
- The transferred history is aggregated to all aggregate levels.
- The application aggregates predecessor history for all aggregate levels. Whether the aggregated predecessor is included in the net history is determined by the settings configured for each aggregate level on the System Settings screen.
- Link introduction and discontinuation dates

If this check box is selected, the discontinuation date is used as the introduction date for all replacements products.
Note: This option is available if there is only one product to be replaced.
- Introduction date
- The date when the replacement (successor) product is active.
- The Replacement details section is enabled only when you select products in the Products to be replaced and the Replacement products sections.
- The discontinuation date overwrites any existing discontinuation dates for the product to be replaced.
- The introduction dates overwrite any existing introduction dates for the replacement products.
- If the replacement product is defined in multiple supersession links, the earliest introduction date is used.
After you specify the required information, click to create the supersession link. When the validation is successful, the application performs these actions:
- Creates new products and aggregates.
- Creates links between base planning entities.
- Sets introduction and discontinuation dates.
- Transfers net history from predecessor to successor based on the defined ratio and stores as predecessor history.
- Aggregates predecessor history to all aggregate planning entities.
Supersession links cannot be created when:
- A link already exists between 2 products.
- The supersession link creates a circular chain. For example, Product A, supersedes Product B. Product B supersedes Product A.
- The supersession chain exceeds 100.
