Process for updating planning entity status
The status of each Planning Entity (PE) can be updated by system processes, or you can update the status manually. You can update the status of each PE from the Demand Planning Workbench screen or update all PEs from the System Settings screen.
The status of PE can be updated manually for all planning entity levels:
- Open can be changed to Reviewed or Approved.
- When the switch is set to Off on the System Settings screen, Reviewed status can be changed to Approved.
These actions set the status of the PE to Open:
- Saving manual adjustments to a PE or an associated PE or APE
- Saving the PE following Calculate
- Generate Forecast
- Generate Customer Forecast
- Regenerate Planning Entities
- Advancing Forecast From Date, including “live running”
- Update children where the forecast is regenerated
Note: Rebuild Index action does not change the status of a PE.
Once the status of a PE is updated, the application applies predefined business rules to determine the subsequent status in the lifecycle.
- The status is changed from Open to Reviewed if all situations are resolved for the PE.
- The status is changed from Reviewed to Approved automatically if the switch on the System Settings screen is enabled.
- The status is changed from Approved to Published if the PE matches the PE level defined in the Publish Plan Type field on the System Settings screen.
Note:
- A red circular icon is displayed next to the status on the Demand Planning Workbench screen, indicating the PE is being published.
- A green tick is displayed next to the status on the Demand Planning Workbench screen after successful publishing, and acknowledgment received by demand forecasting, indicating the PE is published.
- The application publishes the Net Forecast, System Forecast, Customer Forecast, Tactical Forecast, Strategic Forecast, and Forecast Adjustments for that PE.
- Data is published in buckets (days, weeks, and months) that match the defined forecast level periods for that PE.
- Data is processed and loaded to M3 if the Publish Plan Type field on the System Settings screen defines M3 as the publish destination.
- Data is processed and loaded to SCV if the Publish Plan Type field on the System Settings screen defines SCV as the publish destination. However, to process data to SCV, you must run the BA_IMPORT SCV program.
Note: This program can be called within a runSCV macro command. The SCV_BA_Import_All macro provided in our standard demand forecasting template runs this program. The macro publishes data for the specified business area as defined in the scp_business_area application variable. - When the status is changed to Published:
- The status is considered the final state in the PE status lifecycle.
- No additional processes are triggered, however any changes made to the forecast for the PE, resets the status of the PE to Open, causing the lifecycle to restart.
