Running a simulation

You can run a simulation for a Planning Entity (PE) or Aggregate Planning Entity (APE) using the selected policy and simulation input values.

  1. Select SCP > (BA) > Strategic Inventory Planning > SIP Workbench
  2. Select the required PE or APE from the Selection panel.
  3. Modify the required inputs on Inputs panel. See Simulation input panel.
  4. Select the required policy from the drop-down list.
  5. Click Simulate.
    Note: 
    • The Simulate option resets the PE status to Open.
    • When you click Simulate for an APE with more than 100 children, the Job Manager window displays the simulation progress. The simulation starts with the Running status and displays this message: 
      Execute simulation in {Business Area (BA) name}
    • While the job is running, you can abort the simulation, using the Abort option.
    • The Abort option is enabled only while the simulation job is set to Running.
    • If the simulation is aborted, the Job Manager window displays the Execution is interrupted, some results can be incomplete or not persisted. An error message is displayed. When the simulation completes successfully, the job status changes to Completed.
    • Simulations for 100 PEs or fewer run synchronously and the results are displayed in the Outputs panel.
    You can change the policy used in the simulation, by selecting the new policy from the drop-down at the top of the Inputs panel. If you select a different policy, only the values associated with the selected policy are updated without modifying the other simulation input values. See Simulation input panel.
    Note: When a simulation is run the inputs and outputs are saved for the PE.
    Published outputs are exported to the destination configured in the Publish plan to field on the System Settings screen. The integration layer determines which published outputs are sent to each configured destination. When you click Approve, the selected PE status changes to Approved. Approving an APE automatically approves all the child PEs. An APE is automatically approved if all the child PEs are Approved.
    When you click Publish, the selected PE status changes to Published.
    • The publish status icon indicates whether publishing is in progress or completed.
    • You can click Refresh to update the publish status.
    • Publishing an APE automatically publishes all its child PEs.
    • The parent APE is not published when a PE is published unless all the children have been published.
    • Data is processed and loaded to M3 if the Publish Plan Type field on the System Settings screen defines M3 as the publish destination.
    • Data is processed and loaded to SCV if the Publish Plan Type field on the System Settings screen defines SCV as the publish destination. However, to process data to SCV, you must run the BA_IMPORT SCV program.
      Note: This program can be called within a runSCV macro command. The SCV_BA_Import_All macro provided in our standard demand forecasting template runs this program. The macro publishes data for the specified business area as defined in the scp_business_area application variable.

    You can prevent the selected child PE from being included in an APE simulation using the Lock from simulation at APE option. This ensures that manual changes made to the child PE are not overwritten during an APE-level simulation. When you reopen the same PE or APE, the saved simulation inputs and outputs are displayed.
