Utilization

Use the Utilization window to view the current utilization of each resource in a graphical representation. This enables you to view the efficiency of resource utilization and identify the reason for the lack of utilization. The utilization data can be exported through an interface or Publish Schedule, accessed from the Integration menu.

The graph displays the time allocated for each resource and the allocation process in the work area of a specific planning board view that is displayed. If a batch crosses the work area boundaries, the part of the batch within the boundaries is included in the calculation process. If a resource has a utilization level of more than 100%, through overlapping, a warning is triggered.

These are the areas wherein the resources can be allocated:

  • Downtime of a resource is the total duration of the idle time (for maintenance and other irregular interruptions) within the work area excluding the overlapping of the downtime batches. For example, two downtime batches last from 5:00 to 15:00 (10 hours) and 2:00 to 10:00 (8 hours). The batches overlap from 5:00 to 10:00, therefore the total downtime across batches is equal to the end time of the first batch minus the start time of the second batch: 15:00 - 2:00 = 13 hours.
  • Non-productive time of a resource is the total duration of batch setup and changeover segments, and parts of these segments within the work area. CIP batches are considered as non-productive time.
  • Productive time of a resource is the sum duration of all inflow, offset (slack) and outflow batch segments and parts of these segments within the work area.
  • Idle time of a resource is the period within the work area that is not utilized by process batches (non-productive and productive time), time periods, or downtime. The minimum value allowed is 0.
  • Unavailable time is the period in which the resource is not available. This is the sum duration of all time periods and parts of periods within the work area, excluding overlaps with downtime or between time periods. The time period for which you have selected the Capacity not Available During this Period by Default option is considered.
