Demand Sensing at aggregates

Demand sensing is the ability to view how current demand (sales to date) is tracking against the current forecast. In the existing Demand Sensing workbench, we tracked this and produced exceptions against the base levels of the hierarchies, which by default is Item-Warehouse (or SKU) at Customer.

Customers requested to be able to track this information at different levels of aggregation without the need for customization. In this release, we have added three additional Demand Sensing workbenches at varying levels of aggregation. The levels described in the worksheet names coincide with the hierarchical levels from the default item and location hierarchies in Demand Planning content:

  • Demand Sensing (Items) - calculates at the base level of the Item hierarchy; which by default is Item-Warehouse (SKU).
  • Demand Sensing (Item Grp) - calculates at the Groups level of the item hierarchy, which by default is Item.
  • Demand Sensing (Item Grp - Location) - calculates at the Groups level of the item hierarchy and the base level of the location hierarchy, which by default is Item-Customer.

All workbenches have the same layout and work in a similar way to the existing Demand Sensing workbench. All four workbenches are available to be used independently or in parallel, so different users can sense the demand and track errors at different levels.

Demand Sensing allows setting tolerances based on number of standard deviations and a percentage difference. Standard Deviation tolerance is only performed at the base hierarchical levels, by default item-location-customer, as this is typically where we calculate and store the standard deviation from forecast generation. Therefore, three new workbenches only use the percentage tolerance for demand sensing alerts.

Note:
  • This feature is available after loading the demand planning template (dpls.zip) for this release. A new role or privilege is not required to access this feature.
  • The new demand sensing workbenches are accessible to those standard roles with access to the existing Demand Sensing workbench in the standard content.
