Defining rolling periods for a cycle

You can define (link) rolling periods to a cycle, for use in worksheets.

To define rolling periods:

  1. Select Configuration > Cycle > Cycles.
  2. Click New.
  3. Specify this information:
    Name
    Specify the name of the cycle.
    Display Name
    Specify the name to be displayed in the application. This is an optional field.
    Base Currency
    Select the main currency to be used for the specified cycle.
  4. Specify the required information in the cycle details pane.

  5. On the Rolling Periods tab of the Details pane, click New.
  6. In the Rolling Period window, specify this information:
    Top Level
    The name of the top element for which the rolling period hierarchy is displayed.
    Calendar
    Specify the calendar for which the rolling periods must be defined.
    Note: This value is based on the calendar definition specified in the Calendar pane of the Cycle definition.
    Periodicity
    Specify the calendar level at which the scenario values must be stored. This list is based on the calendar levels specified in the Calendar defined for the cycle. For example, if Calendar Type of the cycle is Monthly, the Periodicity is Years, Months, or Quarters.
    Horizon Type
    Specify the type of rolling period hierarchy that must be defined. These are the options:
    • User-defined: User-defined historic and future horizon for the rolling period hierarchy.
    • Previous Year: System-defined horizon based on the specified calendar definition.
    • Current Year: System-defined horizon based on the specified calendar definition.
    • Next Year: System-defined horizon based on the specified calendar definition.
    Future Horizon
    Specify the number of future periods generated from the current planning period at the periodicity level, specified for the rolling periods. This includes the current planning period (%FirstPeriod). The value must be >=0.
    Note: This field is displayed only for the horizon type, User-defined.
    History Horizon
    Specify the number of historical periods that must be generated at the periodicity level specified for the rolling periods, prior to the current planning period. The value must be >=0.
    Note: This field is displayed only for the horizon type, User-defined.
    Offset
    Specify the number of periods that must be excluded from the period definition when generating the rolling periods. This value is calculated from the current planning period. The value must be >=0. For example, if Future Horizon is 6 and Offset is 2, a rolling period definition is created with 6 periods; the rolling periods are generated from 2 periods, after the current planning period.
    Note: This field is displayed only for the horizon type, User-defined.

    This value can be >0 only if the value of the Future Horizon or History Horizon is 0.

    Year to Date Label
    Specify the period label for the Year to Date child element. This is the first period of the planning year up to the current, planning, or next planning period. For example, if you select Current Year as the Horizon Type, this value is the first period of the current planning year up to the current planning period.
    Note: This field is only displayed for these horizon types:
    • Previous Year
    • Current Year
    • Next Year
    Year End Label
    Specify the period label assigned to the Year End child element. This is the current, previous, or next time period, up to the last period of the current, previous, or next planning year. For example, if you select Current Year as the Horizon Type, the current planning period to the last period of the current planning year is applicable.
    Note: This field is only displayed for these horizon types:
    • Previous Year
    • Current Year
    • Next Year
    Include in Data Context
    If this check box is selected, the selected rolling period is included in the data context selector for the periods, to view the worksheets.
    Note: By default, this check box is cleared.
    Note:  Each rolling period hierarchy is also generated as a period set for use in calculation rules. For example, a rolling period of "Next 2 Months" with a Future Horizon of 2 and Periodicity specified as Months for current planning period "Y12 M01" creates 2 sets, “Set_Next2Months” and “Set_2_Next2Months”.
    • Contains {[Y12 M01],[Y12 W01],[Y12 W02],[Y12 W03],[Y12 W04],[Y12 M02],[Y12 W05],[Y12 W06],[Y12 W07],[Y12 W08]}.
    • "Set_2_Next2Months" contains {[Y12_M01],[Y12 M02]}.

Note:  If a calendar year includes 53 weeks and the current time period is set to the 53rd week, and there is no equivalent in the previous calendar year, the previous time period is the last week of the previous year.
