Changing the default download location in Internet Explorer

To change the default download location (C:\My Documents):

  1. On the Windows Start menu, click Run.
  2. Specify regedit and click OK.
  3. Scroll to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
  4. In the right pane, double-click Download Directory.
  5. In the Edit String window, specify your new download directory. Ensure that you correctly specify the directory, because you cannot browse for directories.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Close the Registry Editor and all the open Internet Explorer windows.
  8. Restart Windows or log off and log in for this change to take effect.
