Concepts
These key concepts are important to understanding core PIM
functionality.
- Attribute
- A characteristic of an entity. Use attributes to classify entities and to determine the types of information that you provide about entities.
- Entity type
- A collection of one or more attributes that you use to define information models. For example, an entity type of Clothes could have attributes for color and fabric type.
- Information model
- A collection of one or more entity types.
- Entity
- An individual product, such as an item that you sell, a document, an image, or any other discrete item that has attributes. The information that you define for an entity depends upon the entity type that you assign to it.
- Accounting entity
- An accounting entity is a distinct business unit. If PIM is integrated to an ERP, then the accounting entity ID is used in BODs. If you set up more than one accounting entity ID, then separate information models and entities are created for each accounting entity ID. Users select the accounting entity ID before creating entity types and entities.
