How product recommendations work in inriver PIM

Product recommendations are made up of two components: product recommendation types and the recommended items and products for each recommendation type.

Item-to-item and product-to-product entity links are used as the source of recommendation types. For example, you could create an item-to-item link named "Other beach vacation gear." This link type would be available as a recommendation type in the Product Recommendation widget in the web shop. In on-premises inriver PIM, create the entity links in the Model Tool. In inriver PIM cloud, create the entity links in the Control Center.

After you create entity links for recommendation types, the recommendation type is displayed on the Includes tab. To specify the recommended items or products to show to customers when they view a particular item, first select the item or product. Then, use the Includes tab to add the recommended items or products. For example, you sell sunglasses and recommends beach towels and sun hats to customers who view sunglasses. You would complete these steps:
  1. Open the Sunglasses item.
  2. Click the Includes tab.
  3. Add the Beach Towel and Sun Hat items to the Other beach vacation gear area.

To recommend sunglasses and sun hats when customers view beach towels, you would open the Beach Towels item and add Sunglasses and Sun Hats to the Other beach vacation gear area on the Includes tab.

The recommendation type is also displayed on the Included in tab. If items or products are displayed on the Included tab, then the product or item that you are currently viewing is a recommended item for another product or item. For example, if you are viewing the Sun Hat item, you could click the Included tab to see if Sun Hats are recommended to users who buy Beach Towels or Sunglasses.

Note: All product-to-product and item-to-item relationship types are considered to be recommendation types. If you use item-to-item or product-to-product relationships for another purpose, those relationships are also available to be displayed in the Product Recommendations widget in the web shop.
