Categories
Rhythm e-Commerce supports these types of categories:
- Normal categories are typically used to group items together into a hierarchical, browsable structure. They can also represent a group of options available to a complex item. Often, they are used for both purposes. Categories created only to group sub-items for complex item are marked as non-browsable if necessary.
- Virtual categories are related to catalogs, and are the non-browsable parent category for normal categories that you define in the Business Center.
You can create categories in the Business Center in two ways:
- Manually, defining one category at a time
- By bulk update, specifying multiple categories in an Excel file and uploading the file in the Business Center
Bulk update process flow
Adding categories and item categories through file upload follows this process:
- User uploads and selects the file type.
- As part of the upload process, the file is validated by checking the contents of the file for errors.
- User may choose to import a validated file to reflect it in the actual catalogs. Only the valid rows are applied. Invalid rows are omitted.
- If the file to be imported is an item category file, then the user can add item category records from the validated file to existing item categories or replace existing item categories, before import is processed.
- User may choose to cancel a file that is being published or queued for import.
