Creating document types

When you add a document or a media file, you specify the type of file that you are adding. Use this procedure to create document types.

  1. In the navigation pane, expand the menu under the name of the site.
  2. Select Content & Data > Documents and Media.
  3. Click the Document Types tab.
  4. Click Add.
  5. In the Name field, specify the name of the document type.
  6. In the Description field, optionally specify a description of the type.
  7. Add fields. Users specify information in the fields when they add documents. To save a document type, you must add at least one field.
    1. In the Fields section, drag the type of field to add onto the data field next to the list of fields.
    2. Click the field that you added. The Settings tab is selected.
    3. To set the values for the properties of the field, double-click the Value field. For example, to change the name of the field label, double-click the Value field in the Field Label row. Edit the value, and then click Save.
  8. Leave the Additional Metadata Fields section blank. Additional metadata fields are not available.
  9. In the Permissions section, specify the users who can view the content. You can specify additional permission settings after you save the document type. Select one of these options:

Site Members This option is not supported.
Owner Only the owner of the content can view it.
