Step two: delivery

The actions that a customer can take during the delivery step depends upon your ERP and how you set up the Business Center. This step is included in the checkout process only if the customer selected the Delivery option in step one of the checkout process.

The delivery step can also be omitted if these conditions are met:
  • You do not confirmed delivery functions.
  • The Order Checkout widget is configured to display shipping dates in step 1 of the checkout.
This table shows the actions that are available to the customer and how to set up the behaviors:

Customer can view earliest possible delivery date. The customer cannot request a delivery date. These conditions must be met:
  • The ERP must be able to send confirmed delivery date information to Rhythm for Commerce.
  • The Get Confirmed Delivery Date feature element in the Business Center must be selected.
If you configure your website for this action, then the customer's order is organized into deliveries.
Customer can request a confirmed delivery date for the entire order. The delivery date is confirmed by the ERP. These conditions must be met:
  • The ERP must be able to send confirmed delivery date information to Rhythm for Commerce.
  • The Get Confirmed Delivery Date feature element in the Business Center must be selected.
  • The Order Line Req Del Date feature element in the Business Center must be cleared.
If the total quantity or partial quantity of an item is no longer available, a message is displayed. Customers must update their carts to remove the unavailable item or quantities before proceeding to the next step.
Customer can request a delivery date for the entire order. The delivery date is not confirmed by the ERP. These conditions must be met:
  • The Get Confirmed Delivery Date feature element in the Business Center must be cleared.
  • The Order Line Req Del Date feature element in the Business Center must be cleared.
If the total quantity or partial quantity of an item is no longer available, a message is displayed. Customers must update their carts to remove the unavailable item or quantities before proceeding to the next step.
Note: If delivery dates are not confirmed by the ERP, you can configure the web shop to omit the Delivery step and show the shipping date selection in step one of the checkout.
The earliest delivery dates are confirmed by the ERP. Customer can then request a delivery date for each line in the order to consolidate deliveries. These conditions must be met:
  • The ERP must be able to send confirmed delivery date information to Rhythm for Commerce.
  • The Get Confirmed Delivery Date feature element in the Business Center must be set to Y.
  • The Order Line Req Del Date feature element in the Business Center must be set to Y.
  • Optionally, configure the Order checkout widget to display the Verify Delivery Changes button. We recommend that you display this button so that the customer can confirm changes before completing the checkout.
  • Configure the Order checkout widget to automatically organize the items in the order into fastest deliveries or fewest deliveries.
If earlier delivery dates are available, a notification is displayed.
Customer can request a different delivery method for each delivery. These conditions must be met:
  • The ERP must be able to send confirmed delivery date information to Rhythm for Commerce.
  • These feature elements must be set to Y in the Business Center: Get Confirmed Delivery Date, Order Line Req Del Date, Choose Multiple Shipping Methods.
If a customer selects multiple deliveries for the order, the deliveries are sorted using this hierarchy in subsequent steps of the checkout:
  • If deliveries will be made on multiple dates, the deliveries are first sorted by date in ascending order.
  • If multiple deliveries will be made on the same date, the deliveries are sorted by warehouse in ascending order.
  • If multiple deliveries will be made on the same date from the same warehouse, the deliveries are sorted by shipping address in ascending order.
