Calculating offsets

In addition to recording the location of an asset on the length of a linear asset, you can use offset measurements to locate the asset more precisely. An offset represents the distance of an asset from the left or right side of the linear asset.

You can configure GeoAdministrator to calculate offset values when you associate assets with a linear asset. This information will be used to populate the Offset column of the linear asset table.

  1. Click Preferences on the GeoAdministrator tab.
  2. Select the O&R Accessories tab in the preferences box.
  3. Click Associations Config.
  4. Select the Offset tab and specify this information:
    Select Asset Type
Select the Operations and Regulations asset type for which you are calculating offsets.
    Select GIS Layer
Select the GIS layer that corresponds to the selected asset type.
    Calculate Left and Right By
Select the option that indicates the direction from which you want to determine left and right offsets.
    • Ascending M-Value Direction:
    • Digitized Line Direction:
    Offset Sign
Select the option that indicates how you want to indicate right and left offsets. Right and left offset measurements are indicated by positive and negative values. You can select which side is positive and which side is negative.
  5. Click Add.
GeoAdministrator adds a new entry to the grid on the Offset tab. For each combination of an asset type and a GIS layer, GeoAdministrator will follow the rules you defined to calculate offsets when you associate assets.

You can click Edit to update items in the grid, or click Remove to delete them.
