Joining two linear assets

You can use GeoAdministrator to create a single linear asset from two existing linear assets that are connected to a common endpoint. For example, you might want to combine two sewer mains that share a common sewer node.

  1. Start an ArcMap edit session.
  2. Use any of the ArcMap selection tools to select two linear assets that share an endpoint.
  3. Click Join Selected Linear Assets in the GeoAdministrator toolbar.
GeoAdministrator shows the Linear Feature Selection dialog box, which you can use to define how you want to create the new asset record.

Most importantly, you must specify how you will assign a COMPKEY to the new record. Because there are two existing linear asset records, you have three options: you can copy the attributes from either of the existing records, or you can create a new record without copying any of the existing attributes. Thus, under Select the feature to keep, the Linear Feature Selection dialog box shows three option buttons: one for each existing asset and one labeled New Default Asset. You can select either of the first two options to use the attributes from the specified asset, or you can click New Default Asset to create new attributes.

  4. Select one of the options under Select the feature to keep.
  5. If you want to expire the common endpoint in Infor Operations and Regulations, select Expire Contained Point Asset.
  6. Click OK.
