Creating multiple linear assets

When you use the sketch tool to create linear assets, you aren't limited to creating a single asset at a time. By sketching a series of points, you can create multiple linear assets. The asset will be connected in a chain, with the ending node of each asset serving as the beginning node for the next one.

  1. Start an ArcMap edit session.
  2. Select Infor PS Create Linear Asset from the Task list in the Editor toolbar.
  3. From the Target list, select the layer in which you want to create the linear asset.
  4. Click the Sketch Tool button in the Editor toolbar.
  5. Click the map locations where you want to place the first node and each subsequent node.
  6. Double-click where you want to place the final node.
ArcMap lines connecting the points you created, and GeoAdministrator shows the Validate New Linear Assets dialog box.
  7. Under Source Point, select the layer and asset type for the first node of the first linear asset.
  8. Specify an identification code for the source point in the Unit ID field.
  9. Under Segment, select the type of linear asset you're creating from the Asset Type list.
  10. Under Destination Point, select the layer and asset type for the downstream node, and specify the unit ID.
  11. Click Next.
GeoAdministrator moves the asset defined under Destination Point to the fields under Source Point, making it the beginning node of the next linear asset in the series.
  12. For each additional linear asset, specify the asset type and the destination node and click Next.
  13. Click OK.
GeoAdministrator creates the new point and line features in the geodatabase, and adds the corresponding asset records to the Infor Operations and Regulations database. The COMPKEY, COMPTYPE, and the various unit ID values are copied from the Infor Operations and Regulations database to your GIS attribute tables. The Feature List is then displayed with the new assets listed in the grid. You can highlight an asset record in the grid and click Select to show it in the Infor PS Viewer.
