Editing field mappings

Field mappings indicate which fields in the geodatabase correspond to selected fields in the Infor Operations and Regulations database so that the two can be synchronized. Note that this doesn't include the required columns that you add to the geodatabase to link records, such as ADDRKEY for addresses. Field mappings share data between other, non-required fields, also known as extended fields. You must create a field mapping catalog before you can add any field mappings.

Note that field mappings for address records are handled differently, because addresses require mappings for multiple fields. To map the required address fields, click the Address Field Mappings button on the Field Updates tab of the Preferences box. You can use the standard Edit Field Mappings button to map extended fields for addresses.

  1. Click Preferences on the GeoAdministrator toolbar.
  2. On the Field Updates tab, click Edit Field Mappings.
  3. In the Field Synchronization Mapping dialog box, click Add.
  4. Select the type of record for which you're setting up a mapping from the Comp Type list.
  5. Select the field in the Infor Operations and Regulations table that you want to map from the Infor PS Field list.
Note: You don't need to select a table. GeoAdministrator automatically shows the table for the type of record that you select in the Comp Type list. You can select any field in the table, but be aware that mapping to a foreign key field can lead to corrupted data. If you select a foreign key field, GeoAdministrator shows a warning message and requires you to confirm the mapping.
  6. Under GIS Field, select the GIS layer and field that correspond to the selected Infor PS field. The field you select must have the same data type as the Infor PS field.
  7. If the GIS field has subtypes or a domain, select either Code or Description under Subtype/Domain Link.
Each subtype and each domain in the geodatabase has both a numeric code and an alphanumeric description. Depending on the Infor Operations and Regulations field you're mapping to, you might have to use either the code or the description so that the data types match. You can thus maintain consistency between the two databases while enforcing subtype and domain rules. If you're mapping a subtype or domain to an Infor Operations and Regulations code definition, you can select either the code or the description for the code definition.
  8. Under Owner, select either GIS or Infor PS.
The owner is the database that this field will be copied from when you synchronize data. This is typically the database that gets updated first, so its data is considered more up-to-date and correct. If you select GIS, the value in the geodatabase will be copied to the Infor Operations and Regulations database. Conversely, if you select Infor PS, GeoAdministrator will copy the value from the Infor Operations and Regulations database to the geodatabase.
  9. Click OK.
