Using M-values

When you associate inventory in Infor Operations and Regulations with a roadway, you can measure the position of the inventory on the length of the roadway in two different ways. By default, GeoAdministrator uses the linear distance along the roadway. Some agencies may prefer to use M-values for more accurate measurements.

M-values represent mile markers along a roadway, which may differ from the linear distance due to changes in elevation. If the roadway layer in your GIS supports M-values, you can use either the linear distance or the M-values to specify the location of the inventory along the roadway. These values are used to populate the Distance From and Distance To columns in the roadway asset table (RWCOMP).

To indicate the asset types and GIS layers for which you want to use M-values, edit your GeoAdministrator preferences.

  1. Click the Preferences button on the GeoAdministrator toolbar.
  2. Select the Infor PS Accessories tab in the preferences box.
  3. Click Associations Config.
  4. In the Select Asset Type list, select the Infor Operations and Regulations asset type for which you want to use M-values.
Note: Currently only Roadway Setup is supported.
  5. From the Select GIS Layer list, select the GIS layer that corresponds to your roadway assets. The list shows all GIS layers that support M-values.
  6. Select the unit of measure that you want to use.
  7. Click Add.
GeoAdministrator adds a new entry to the grid on the M-Value tab. For each combination of an asset type and a GIS layer, GeoAdministrator will use M-values to calculate the locations of associated inventory. You can click Edit to update items in the grid, or click Remove to delete them.
