Create a linear asset using existing endpoints

A linear asset, such as a sewer or water main, is defined based on beginning and ending nodes, each of which is a separate point asset in your inventory. For example, a sewer main record might represent the stretch of pipe between two manholes. If you have two existing point assets in your map, you can use the sketch tool to create a linear asset between them. If the endpoints don't already exist in the geodatabase, you can create them when you create the linear asset.

  1. Start an ArcMap edit session.
  2. Select Infor PS Create Linear Asset from the Task list in the Editor toolbar.
  3. From the Target list, select the layer in which you want to create the linear asset.
  4. Select Snapping from the Editor menu.
  5. Select the Vertex check box for the layer that contains the endpoints you plan to use, then close the snapping panel.
  6. Click Sketch Tool on the Editor toolbar.
  7. Move the circle-shaped pointer over the first endpoint so that it snaps into place, then click.
  8. Move the pointer so that it snaps into place over the second endpoint, then double-click.
ArcMap draws a line connecting the two points, and GeoAdministrator shows the Validate New Linear Assets dialog box.
  9. Under Source Point, select the Use Existing Source Asset check box.
  10. Under Segment, select the type of linear asset you're creating from the Asset Type list.
  11. Under Destination Point, select the Use Existing Destination Asset check box.
  12. Click OK.
GeoAdministrator creates a line feature in the geodatabase and a corresponding asset record in the Infor Operations and Regulations database. The COMPKEY, COMPTYPE, and UNITID values are copied from the Infor Operations and Regulations database to the GIS attribute table. GeoAdministrator then shows the new asset record in the Infor PS Viewer.
