License assignment

Under either the named user model or the concurrent user model, you use the User License form to assign licenses to users. The purpose of assigning licenses is different under each model.

Assigning licenses in the named user model is simpler because the number of licenses available equals the number of licenses that have been purchased. Under the concurrent user model, there is no effective limit to the number of licenses you can assign. The licenses aren't taken up when they're assigned, but when users sign in. The assignments serve only to associate users with licenses so their usage can be tracked. On login, the user is added to the concurrent user count for each assigned license.

For example, an agency that has purchased 20 concurrent licenses for CRM is not limited to 20 users in the User License form. Instead, the agency is given an arbitrarily large number of licenses so that one may be assigned to each user who will have access. These are virtual licenses at this point, because they merely indicate which employees might use the module. They aren't counted against the total number of licenses the agency has purchased until users sign in.
