Add Linear Asset Length Tool

The Add Linear Asset Length tool is used to increase the total length of a linear asset and update the affected data as required. You specify the location of the added length, measured from the start of the asset, and the amount of length to add.

Note: "Add Linear Asset Length" is a generic name for this form. The actual name depends on the name of the agency-defined asset.

In the simplest case, length is added at the start or end of an asset. Adding length at the end extends the asset. If you add length at the start of the asset, the amount of length is added to the measurements of all items that are attached to the asset. For example, if you add two miles to the start of an asset, the measurements of all items are increased by two miles.

You can also add length in the middle of an asset, such as adding 5 miles beginning 15 miles from the start. In this case, the measurements of all items beyond the specified location are adjusted by the added length. Measurements before the added length are unaffected.

If the location at which the length is added falls between the start and end of a range, the range is extended by the amount of length added. The length is added to the ending measurement, but not the start.
