EDM setup

An EDM (electronic document management) provider serves to communicate between Infor Public Sector and an EDM system where attachments are stored. Before you can add attachments you must set up one or more EDM providers.

There are several different types of EDM providers. These are the standard provider types:

  • IPS Provider: Attachments are stored in a specified directory on the Infor Public Sector application server, or on a separate server.
  • SharePoint: Attachments are stored in Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Infor Document Management: Attachments are stored in Infor Document Management.
  • Micro Focus Content Manager: Attachments are stored in Micro Focus Content Manager.
  • Custom: You can create your own custom EDM provider.

A custom provider is an assembly containing code that Infor Public Sector and the EDM system use to communicate with each other. The provider must first be placed on the server, and then EDM Setup can be used to add the provider in Infor Public Sector.

  • Laserfiche: Attachments are stored in Laserfiche 10.4.
Note: The Network Access node in the DocumentProviders configuration stores the credentials that EDM providers will use to access network resources. This information is required for IPS providers, which store attachments in locations on the network, and for any other provider that must access the network.

Each provider has one or more document types associated with it, which correspond to the document types in the EDM system. Document types are defined separately in Infor Public Sector so they can be reused across multiple EDM providers.

See Document types.

EDM providers are also used for access control. Infor Public Sector automatically adds an access group for each provider that you create, with a subgroup for each document type associated with that provider. For each document type, you can assign permissions to add, delete, list, open, or update attachments.

Note: You can add more than one provider for the same EDM system, but this will cause attachments to appear more than once in the Attachments grid. Each attachment that is stored in the same EDM system will appear once for each provider.
