Attaching a distance marker to a roadway

Distance markers are designations that you can use to either measure your roadway, such as with a Milepost distance marker, or correct inaccurate distance markers, such as with an AdjustMile distance marker. You can use the Roadway InfoViewer to indicate where distance markers are located, or attached, along the current roadway. Distance markers attached along a range of the roadway are displayed under the diagram as a bar. Distance markers attached at a point are displayed as a line with a diamond in the center Roadway point symbol. After you've added distance markers to a roadway, you can also add them to the ruler.

See Adding a distance marker to the ruler.

  1. Load the roadway you want into the Roadway InfoViewer.
  2. In the feature list, right-click anywhere to the right of the symbol Distance marker type node for a distance marker type, and select Add new item of this type.
If the distance marker type isn't in the list, you should add it first by modifying the feature list.

See Displaying features in the Roadway InfoViewer.

  3. Select the specific distance marker you want to add from the Distance Marker list.
If no distance markers are displayed in the Distance Marker list, no distance markers have been defined for the marker type in Roadway Setup.
  4. In the Start Distance and End Distance fields, indicate the points along the original length of the roadway where the marker begins and ends.
These values correspond to the roadway's original, absolute length, as displayed in the roadway record and roadway diagram. For example, a distance marker that extends a roadway by 10 miles to account for a new development might begin at mile 20 of the original roadway and end at mile 22. That marker would have a start distance of 20 and an end distance of 22. If the marker is attached at a specific point, these values would be the same.
  5. In the Marker and To fields, indicate the points along the adjusted length of the roadway where the marker begins and ends.
These values correspond to the roadway's current length, adjusted to include any extensions represented by the distance marker. For example, a distance marker that begins at mile 20 of the original roadway, ends at mile 22, and extends the roadway by 10 miles would have a Marker value of 20 and a To value of 30. The unit of measure for this distance marker type is defined during setup.
  6. Provide any other information about the distance marker.
You can specify the dates that the distance marker is effective, add comments, or change the units of measure for any distance fields. The units that are initially displayed reflect the top ruler units assigned to the roadway in the Roadway InfoViewer Preferences dialog box, but you can use different units for the current distance marker.
  7. Click Save.
Infor Public Sector adds the distance marker to the feature diagram in the row to the right of the corresponding distance marker type Distance marker type. If the distance marker is attached along a range, a bar is displayed in the feature diagram showing the distance marker's name and range. If the distance marker is attached at a specific point, a point symbol Roadway point symbol is displayed in the feature diagram. You can rest your mouse pointer on the symbol to view the marker's name and range.
