Meter reading comparison options

There are several options for comparing readings to determine if a meter's usage is higher or lower than expected. In each case Infor Public Sector calculates two different values, the current usage and the compare usage. The current usage is the usage for the current cycle. The compare usage is the value to which the current usage is compared to determine if it is acceptable.

Each option in the Compare list calculates the current usage and the compare usage differently. After you have searched for readings, the usage values in the Compare Usage and Current Usage columns are hyperlinked so you can see the readings that were used to calculate these values. This table describes each of the available compare options.

Comparison type Description
Calendar Month of Cycle Read with Prior Calendar Month The current usage is the usage from the most recent cycle reading, plus any other readings taken during the same month. The compare usage is the sum of the usage from all readings taken the previous month. For example, you might be comparing the usage for November 2022 with the usage for October 2022.
Calendar Month of Cycle Read with Same Month Last Year The current usage is the usage from the most recent cycle reading, plus any other readings taken during the same month. The compare usage is the sum of the usage from all readings taken during the same month in the previous year. For example, you might be comparing the usage for November 2022 with the usage for November 2021.
Current Cycle with Prior Cycle This option is based on the dates of the most recent unbilled cycle reading and the most recent billed cycle reading within the previous 13 months. The current usage is calculated by adding up the usage from all unbilled readings after the last billed cycle reading, up to the date of the most recent unbilled cycle reading. The compare usage is the usage from the most recent bill.
Note: The reading review process searches for billed cycle readings only within the past 13 months. If no readings are found, a "No Prior Reading" exception is returned.
Current Cycle with Same Cycle Last Year As with the Current Cycle with Prior Cycle option, the current usage for this option is calculated by adding up the usage from all unbilled readings after the last billed cycle reading, up to the date of the most recent unbilled cycle reading. To determine the compare usage, Infor Public Sector finds the most recent billed cycle reading on or before the same day last year, and gets the total usage for that reading's bill.
Current Reading with Prior Reading The current usage is the calculated usage from the most recent cycle reading. The compare usage is the usage from the previous reading. The most recent prior reading is used for the comparison, whether it is a cycle reading or not.
Average Daily Usage with Prior Cycle Average Daily Usage The current usage is the average daily usage from the most recent cycle, and the compare usage is the average daily usage from the cycle before that. Each cycle begins on the day after the last cycle reading, and ends on the day of its cycle reading.
Current Cycle Reading with Prior Cycle Reading The current usage is the calculated usage from the most recent cycle reading. The compare usage is the usage from the previous cycle reading. This is similar to the Current Reading with Prior Reading option, but only cycle readings are considered for the prior reading.
