Creating a bill type

When you create a bill type, you are defining the basic characteristics of the bill type, without adding any specific line items or other details. After you've saved the bill type, you can add line items to it, set delinquency options, and add inserts and messages. Line items must be defined separately in Line Item Setup before they can be associated with bill types.

  1. Select Billing > Setup > Billing > Bill Type.
  2. Right-click the Sundry or Utility node and select Create Bill Type Setup.
Note: The nodes that are displayed depend on the licenses that your agency has purchased.

If your agency has purchased CDR Billing, the Bill Type Setup tree also includes a CDR node. You can use Bill Type Setup to edit CDR bill types, but not to create new CDR bill types. CDR bill types are created when you define application types in Application Workflow.

    Manually Apply Credits

    • Do Not Allow: Credits cannot be applied manually.
    • This Bill Type Only: Credits can be applied to charges for the same bill type.
    • Any Bill Type: Credits can be applied to charges for any bill type.
    Payment Application Rule
The payment application rule defines how payments are handled that are designated for specific bills. You can select one of these options:
    • Option 1: Applies payments to the designated bills only. Any funds that remain after the designated bills are paid will not be applied to other charges on the account.
    • Option 2: Applies payment funds to the designated bills first, and then to the oldest unpaid bills of the same type. Funds are not applied to any other bill type.
    • Option 3: Imposes the fewest restrictions. Funds are applied to the designated bills first, then to the oldest unpaid bills of the same type, and then to unpaid bills of other types.
    • Option 4: Does not apply payments to specific bills. Funds are always applied to the oldest unpaid bills of the current bill type.
    • Option 5: Does not apply payments to specific bills. After funds are applied to the current bill type, remaining funds are applied to the oldest unpaid bills of other types.
