Creating a linear asset type

The attributes of your linear asset types are defined in two different places. First, you can use Create Asset Type to define a general linear asset type, such as a canal asset type. The information that you can enter in Create Asset Type is limited to the menu or menus that the asset type is displayed on and the icons that are displayed in the linear asset InfoViewer.

After creating the canal asset type, you would use the Canal Setup page to create specific canal types. Each canal type defines more detailed information, such as the attributes that can be recorded and the elements that can be attached to a canal.

  1. Select Asset Management > Setup > Create Asset Type.
  2. Select Linear from the Class list.
  3. Specify a name for the asset type in the Name field.
  4. On the Menu tab, enter one or more menus that the asset type is displayed on.
  5. On the Icons tab, specify the icons that you want to use in the linear asset InfoViewer for this asset type.
Users can select icons when they attach assets and attributes to linear assets. The check boxes in the Show Icon column indicate which icons will be available in the InfoViewer. If you don't want to use the default icon names, you can enter your own names in the Icon Display column.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Set up access control for your new asset type.
Users must be granted access to the new asset type before they can use it.
