Creating an asset

The process of creating an asset is the same for all asset types. You specify an asset identifier and any other information that you want to record about the asset, and then you save the record. However, there are differences in how assets of different types are identified. Depending on the asset type, an asset is identified in one of these ways:

  • A simple asset is defined by a single asset ID that you assign when you create the asset. Most asset types in Infor Public Sector are simple.
  • A network asset, such as a sewer or water main, is defined as the portion of an asset network between two other assets. The endpoints of a network asset must be simple assets, such as two manholes for a sewer main.
  • A segment asset, finally, follows the same model as a street segment, which is defined by two fields: the street the segment is part of and a unit ID for the specific segment.
