Rate tables

Use rate tables to calculate charges in Billing and CDR, such as bill line items, one-off charges, and application fees.

You can use rate tables to set up charges that are as complex as you need them to be without having to rely on the Formula Editor. Rate tables use a decision tree model, where each rate table consists of a series of branching nodes and subnodes which the system uses to determine how to calculate a charge.

The nodes that make up a rate table are known as rate table details. The structure can be quite complex, because there are several types of details and they can be nested to any depth, but in general rate table details serve two complementary purposes. First, a detail indicates the path the system takes through the decision tree based on a selected business object property. For example, a Billing detail might use the Account Class property to calculate the same charge differently for commercial and residential accounts. Second, each detail calculates the charge, or part of the charge, that the rate table will return.

Note: There are some important differences between Billing and CDR rate tables. Billing rate tables are represented by the Service Based and One-off Charge nodes in the Rate Table Setup tree, while CDR rate tables are represented by the Building Permits, Code Enforcement, License, Planning, Project, Trade License, and Use Permits nodes. (The nodes that you see will depend on the modules your agency has purchased.)
