Linear asset tools

The linear asset tools are used to update linear asset records to reflect changes in their structure. This can reflect a physical change in the asset, such as adding length to a canal, or a change in the way a linear asset is defined in Infor Public Sector.

  • Add Linear Asset Length Tool: Used to increase the total length of a linear asset and update the affected data as required. You specify the location of the added length, measured from the start of the asset, and the amount of length to add. The measurements of all items beyond the specified location will be adjusted by the added length.

If the location at which the length is added falls between the start and end of a range, the range is split in two. For example, suppose an attribute begins 20 miles from the start of an asset and ends 40 miles from the start of the asset. If you add 10 miles starting 30 miles from the start of the asset, you will have two attributes. The first runs from 20 to 30 miles from the start of the asset and the second runs from 40 to 50 miles from the start of the asset. The new section, from 30 to 40 miles from the start, has no attribute.

  • Remove Linear Asset Length Tool: Used to remove length from a linear asset record to reflect a change in the asset's structure. The amount of length removed will be subtracted from the measurements of the affected data.
  • Split Linear Asset Tool: Divides an existing linear asset into two new assets. You can keep the original asset's ID for one of the two new assets, or you can assign new IDs to both new assets and expire the original asset record.
  • Merge Linear Assets Tool: Makes a single new asset out of two existing linear assets. Each of the original asset records is expired. Distances on the new, merged asset will be measured from the start of the first asset that you specify.
  • Reverse Linear Asset Tool: Flips the two endpoints of a linear asset, reversing the direction in which distances are measured.
  • Alter Linear Asset Start Tool: Used to change the starting measurement of a linear asset without adding or removing any length. Linear assets typically start at 0.00, whichever unit of measure is used, but this isn’t required. All distances along the linear asset will be recalculated based on the new starting measurement.
