Creating a new version of a linear asset

As the structure of a linear changes over time, you may want to create a new version of the asset record. For example, if an asset is rerouted, you may want to continue using the same asset ID to represent a different structure. By creating a new version, you can use the same ID for the new asset while still maintaining a complete history of the old asset.

When you create a linear asset, it is assigned version number 1 and marked as the current version. When you create a new version, a copy of the original record is created and assigned version number 2. Version 2 is then marked as the current version, and version 1 is unmarked and expired.

  1. Load the correct linear asset in the InfoViewer. It must be the current version.
  2. Click Action and select Create New Version.
  3. Select the check boxes for the information that you want to copy to the new version.
  4. Click Save.
