Agency defined assets

In addition to the standard asset types in Infor Public Sector, you can create your own asset types.

When you create an asset type, you can define information such as the data that can be recorded for your asset type, the other asset types your asset type can be associated with, and the menu or menus it will be displayed on. You can then use your configured asset types like any other asset type, creating assets, asset groups, inspections, work orders, and so on.

You can create asset types in these general classes:
  • A simple asset is defined by a single asset ID that you assign when you create the asset. Most asset types in Infor Public Sector are simple.
  • A network asset, such as a sewer or water main, is defined as the portion of an asset network between two other assets. The endpoints of a network asset must be simple assets, such as two manholes for a sewer main.
  • A segment asset follows the same model as a street segment, which is defined by two fields: the street that the segment belongs to, and a unit ID for the specific segment.
  • A linear asset follows the same model as a roadway in the Infor Public Sector Roadway module. Examples of linear assets include canals, power lines, and railways.

Infor Public Sector generates a unique numeric key to identify each asset type, commonly referred to as a comptype. Comptypes are important for Infor Public Sector configuration, so the Asset Type InfoViewer shows the comptype for each asset type you create.

Note: Asset type information is stored in both the database and the AssetManagement configuration. If you want to use the asset type in Infor Public Sector Web Services, or in a stand-alone installation of Rest Services, you must synchronize the AssetManagement configurations.

See Synchronizing asset types with Web Services and Rest Services.
