Working with routes

Your work assignments, such as asset inspections, CDR inspections, service requests, and work orders, can be displayed in the map as a route.

To use the routing functionality your agency must first set up one or more Routing tasks in the Batch Manager. The Routing task creates the routes that are displayed on the map, using the location data from the assignments, such as the address of a service request. See the Infor Public Sector Batch Processing Administration Guide for more information.

To show routes in the Map Browser, click Tools and select Routing.

Your route for the day is shown on the map, and a list of your assignments is shown in the left panel. (You might need to click your name in the left panel to see the list of assignments.)

The order of assignments depends on whether the route is optimized. If the route is not optimized, then the order is based on the type of work assignment, with assignments listed in this order:

  • Asset inspections
  • Building application inspections
  • Business license inspections
  • Case inspections
  • Planning inspections
  • Project application inspections
  • Use application inspections
  • Service requests
  • Work orders

If the route is optimized, the task uses the ESRI optimizer to organize the assignments so they can be completed in the most efficient manner.

If you are a supervisor or department head, you can use the buttons at the top of the left panel to show only your own route, routes for employees who report to you, or routes for employees in your department. Depending on the option that you select, one or more employees' names are displayed. Click an employee's name to show that employee's route. The assignments are color-coded by employee.

To change the order of an assignment in the list, click and hold on the order number and then drag the assignment to its new position. The order numbers of all assignments are updated based on their new positions.

To reassign a stop in a route, click and hold on the order number, then drag the assignment to the name of the new employee. The assignment is then added to the selected employee's list.

Note: You must have both the Reassign Stops and the Reorder Stops permissions in Access Control to reassign stops.

To remove an assignment from the route, click the X to the right of the assignment number in the list. This will both remove the stop from the route and remove the employee's name from the work record.

When you click an assignment number in the list, the map zooms to that stop in the route and shows a popup menu. The menu includes these options:

  • Show Route: Zooms out to show the whole route on the map.
  • Optimize Route: Uses the ESRI optimizer to reorder the stops in the route so they can be completed most efficiently.
  • Calendar: Shows the employee's assignments in the Schedule Calendar.
  • Edit Route: Enables editing of the route on the map. For example, you can click and drag a stop to remove it from the route.
  • Reload Route: Reloads the route based on the most recent information.
  • Activity Info: Opens the assignment in its InfoViewer.

You can also click the Optimize All button in the left panel to optimize all routes, or click Reload All to reload the routes.
