Associating an asset with an address

You can use the Assets tab in the Address InfoViewer to associate one or more assets with an address. This is one of two ways to associate assets and addresses, because you can also specify the address where an asset is located in the asset InfoViewer.

These two ways of linking assets to addresses serve different purposes and use different tables in the database. When you specify an address in the asset InfoViewer, the address key is stored in the COMP table. When you associate assets with an address in the Address InfoViewer, the assets are linked to the address record through the COMPADDR table. Note that the Assets node in the Contact and Property Browser shows all assets associated with an address, whether through the COMP or the COMPADDR table, so it might include assets that aren't displayed in the Address InfoViewer.

  1. Load the address record you want into the Address InfoViewer.
You access the Address InfoViewer by clicking the Street Name or Address link for the address on any form that shows the link or by right-clicking the address's node in the Contact and Property Browser and selecting Open Address.
  2. On the Assets tab, click Add above the grid.
  3. Enter search criteria at the top of the dialog box to locate the asset that you want to associate.
  4. Click Search.
  5. Select the correct asset and click Select.
