Defining incident events

Incident events create a more detailed account of a particular incident. For each incident type, you can create a list of the events that might occur. For example, the event types for a traffic accident might include collisions between vehicles, collisions between vehicles and stationary objects, toxic spills, and so on. An event type can consist of a name and a description, or you can use detail pages to capture additional information. When you create a new incident, or edit an existing incident in the InfoViewer, you can select the specific events that occurred from the list of possible events defined for the incident type.

  1. Select Incident > Incident Types.
  2. In the Incident Types tree, browse to the correct incident type.
  3. Select the Incident Events node under the incident type.
You can also use the Events tab in the Incident Type InfoViewer to define event types. To open the InfoViewer, right-click the incident type you want to work with in the Incident Types tree and select Open Incident Type.
  4. Click Add above the Events grid.
  5. Type a name for the event in the Event Type field.
  6. Optionally, enter a description and an expiration date.
  7. If you want to capture more detailed information for the event type, enter a detail page in the Detail Page field.
  8. Click Save.
