Defining an asset position

In your asset inventory, a single address may be the location of multiple assets of the same type, such as an intersection that has multiple street lights or a facility that has multiple water meters. You can limit the number of certain asset types that are allowed at a particular address by specifying a number of possible positions. When you add an asset of that type to the address, Infor Public Sector requires a unique position number, up to the number of available positions you specify. A position of zero indicates that the asset is not active, or currently in use, at the address.

  1. Load the address record you want into the Address InfoViewer.
  2. On the Positions tab, enable editing in the grid and click Add.
  3. In the Asset Type list, select the type of asset that can be located at this address.
  4. In the Positions field, type the number of assets of this type that can be located at this address.
If you specify a number of positions, a unique position number will be required for each asset of this type at the address, up to the number of available positions you specify. If you don't specify a number of positions, Infor Public Sector uses a value of zero, indicating that no assets of this type will be considered active, or in use, at the address. Assets of this type can still be associated with the address, but they will not be considered active until they have a valid position number.
  5. Specify any other information about the asset type's location at the address.
You can specify a variety of information, including X, Y, and Z map coordinates indicating where assets of this type can be located at the address. You can also use the Address Qualifier field to type addition comments about or a description of the location.
  6. Click Save.
Infor Public Sector adds the asset position entry to the address record. A unique position number will now be required for each asset of this type at the address, up to the number of available positions that you specified. If you change the location information for an existing position entry, a dialog box is displayed asking if you want to update the location information for all other assets of that type at the address. If you click Yes, Infor Public Sector automatically changes the location information for each asset of that type that occupies a position at the current address.
