Recording an initial reading

A meter's initial reading is taken at the time service is established and is used to calculate the usage for the next reading. You can record an initial reading on the Life History tab of the InfoViewer, or on the Install Meter form when the meter is installed. Readings are typically uploaded in bulk after a meter route has been read, but you can also add readings manually. You can also record initial readings for meters in an asset group using the Review Meter Readings form.
  1. Load the meter record you want into the Meter InfoViewer. You access the Meter InfoViewer by clicking the Meter ID link for the meter on any form that shows the link, or by right-clicking the correct "Meter" node in the Asset Browser and selecting Open Asset.
  2. On the Life History tab, under Usage, click Details.
  3. Click Add above the grid.
  4. Ensure that the correct date and time are displayed in the Reading Date field.
  5. Check Initial.
Checking Initial indicates that there is no previous reading and stops Infor Public Sector from calculating accumulated usage.
  6. Enter the current meter reading in the Reading field or click Record Zero Reading.
Because the default value for the Reading field is 0.00, clicking the link indicates that you've deliberately entered a reading of 0.00. Note that clicking the link also replaces any value in the field with 0.00.
Note: If you're reading a compound meter with two single registers, Infor Public Sector shows two fields: High Register Reading and Low Register Reading. The total reading is the sum of these two values.
  7. If this meter reading is part of a billing cycle, check Cycle. Checking Cycle signifies that this reading is part of a routine cycle and not an initial or final meter read.
  8. Enter any other information about the meter reading.
Note: You can enter a code in the Reader Code or Problem Code field to record any irregular circumstances about a meter reading, such as a meter malfunction or suspected meter tampering. The reader or problem code might direct Infor Public Sector to highlight the reading in a certain color when it is reviewed using Review Meter Readings. Each code can also have a request type and an activity associated with it, indicating the type of service request or work order that should be created to address the situation. Depending on your access rights, you can define new codes from the popup for the Reader Code field or the Problem Code field.
  9. Click Save.
Infor Public Sector records the initial reading and shows it in the grid. When the next reading is recorded, Infor Public Sector will calculate accumulated usage based on this reading. If you entered a reader code that is associated with a request type, Infor Public Sector will generate a service request for the meter, such as a request to re-read a malfunctioning meter.
