Attaching another roadway

You can use the Roadway InfoViewer to indicate where other roadways cross or merge with the current roadway and how the roadways are connected, such as by a signalized intersection, overpass, or roundabout.

Note: When you attach another roadway to a roadway in the Roadway InfoViewer, you're associating the assets and your records will reflect this association elsewhere in Infor Public Sector. For example, in the Asset Browser a node for the attached roadway is displayed within the current roadway's node, and vice versa.
  1. Load the roadway you want into the Roadway InfoViewer.
  2. In the feature list, right-click anywhere to the right of the asset symbol Roadway Asset Symbol for a roadway, and select Add new item of this type.
The Asset Definition dialog box is displayed. The fields in the dialog box depend on your agency's roadway setup and may vary for different asset types.
Note: If you don't see Roadway in the asset type list, you should add it first by modifying the feature list.

See Displaying features in the Roadway InfoViewer.

  3. Select Roadway from the Asset list.
  4. In the field to the right of the Asset list, enter the identification code for the roadway you want to attach.
  5. In the Start Distance field, enter the point at which the attached roadway crosses or merges with the current roadway. If the attached roadway intersects the current roadway, enter the location of the intersection. If the roadway merges with the current roadway for a stretch, such as a highway merging with another highway at a bridge, enter the starting measurement for the stretch.
  6. If you're attaching the roadway along a range, enter its ending measurement or the point at which it diverges from the current roadway in the End Distance field.
Note that this field is only displayed if roadways are set up to be attached along a range.
  7. If you're attaching the roadway at a point, enter the attached roadway's distance from the center of the current roadway in the Offset field.
Use zero as the center of the current roadway, negative numbers to denote the distance from the center to the left, and positive numbers to denote the distance from the center to the right. For example, if the attached roadway is 10 feet from the center of the current roadway to the left, you would enter -10.
  8. If your agency tracks the attached roadway's right of way position, enter the correct code in the Right of Way Position field.
Right of way positions reflect the attached roadway's location across the width of the current roadway. Depending on your agency's roadway setup, this field may not be present, or it may be present but not be required.
  9. Select an option from the Side of Road list. You must indicate whether the attached roadway crosses through the current roadway or attaches to only to one side of it. Both indicates that the attached roadway crosses the current roadway, attaching to both sides of it. Left and Right indicate that the attached roadway meets the current roadway on only the left or right side, as in a T-intersection, and does not continue on past it. The side is determined by looking from the starting point of the roadway to the ending point.
  10. If you want the roadway to be displayed in the roadway diagram, select an icon from the Schematic Icon list.
The schematic icon is displayed at the intersection of the two roadways in the roadway diagram. For a list of available icons and the types of connections they represent, see the legend to the left of the roadway diagram. If you don't select a schematic icon, the Roadway InfoViewer will reflect the roadway's location only in the feature diagram using the point symbol Roadway point symbol or a range bar.
  11. Enter the starting point at which the current roadway meets the attached roadway in the Cross-Roadway Start field.
  12. Enter the end point on the attached roadway at which the current roadway meets it in the Cross-Roadway End field.
  13. Enter any other information about the attached roadway's intersection with the current roadway.
You can specify the dates that the roadway’s attachment is effective, add comments about the attachment, or change the units of measure for any distance fields. The units that are initially displayed reflect the top ruler units assigned to the roadway in the Roadway InfoViewer Preferences dialog box, but you can use different units for the attached roadway. You can also select a distance marker instead of a unit of measure to indicate the roadway's location. If your agency tracks additional, personalized information about attached roadways, enter that information in the lower half of the dialog box.
  14. Click Save.
Infor Public Sector adds the roadway to the feature diagram in the row to the right of the Roadway asset type and, if you chose a schematic icon, adds the roadway to the roadway diagram. If the roadway is attached along a range, a bar is displayed in the feature diagram showing the roadway ID. If the roadway is attached at a specific point, a point symbol Roadway point symbol is displayed in the feature diagram. You can rest your mouse pointer on the symbol to view the roadway's ID.
