Defining estimated resource usage for a task

If a task commonly requires the use of the same resources each time it is performed, you can use the tabs in the Task dialog box to create a list of standard estimated resource usage rates. The standard usage for each resource is measured against the standard work unit for the activity. For example, a task on a roadwork activity might require two flaggers to manage traffic for four hours per standard work unit. These estimated resource rates are used to calculate the estimated cost of a work order.

You can define task resources from either the Activities tree or the Activity InfoViewer.

  1. Open the Activity Tasks dialog box.
To open the dialog box from the Activities tree, click the Tasks node for the selected activity or milestone and then add or edit a task in the grid.
To open the InfoViewer, right-click the activity's node in the tree and select Open Activity. Then select the Tasks tab and add a new task or edit an existing task.
  2. Select the tab for the correct resource type.
  3. Click Add above the grid.
  4. Specify the specific type or ID of the resource in the "Type" field.
  5. Specify the necessary usage information in the appropriate fields, such as the resource's usage rate or quantity.
  6. Click Save.
The estimated resource usage information is added to the task. When members of your agency record resource usage for this task, they can select this predefined usage rate.
