Granting access to a control

When you add a control you can limit which users will have access to the control by assigning an access ID to it. An access ID represents a permission for a set of users to access a specific Infor Public Sector feature. Adding an access ID to a control tells Infor Public Sector which users can access that control on a form or detail page. If you don't assign an access ID to a control, any users with access to the form or detail page that contains the control can use it.

For example, you may want only a small group of users to be able to edit employee records. You could create a role for those users, create an Edit permission within that role for the Employee InfoViewer's Edit button, and then assign the permission's access ID to the Edit button using the Page Editor. Note that you can assign more than one access right to a grid, such as if you want a large group of users to add records to the grid but only a small group to delete records from it. Also note that you can grant access to controls in both Infor Public Sector forms and in detail pages that your agency has defined.

  1. Create a user for each employee who will have access to the control.
  2. Create a role for these users.
  3. Add each user to the role.
  4. Define a permission for the control.
Make note of the permission's access ID for use in step 9. Also note that you can create more than one permission for a grid, such as permissions for adding, updating, and deleting entries in the grid.
  5. Select the check box to the left of the permission that you want to grant.
  6. Open the Page Editor.
  7. Select the correct control to show its properties.
  8. Select the Show Advanced check box.
Infor Public Sector shows a complete list of properties for the control.
  9. Under Access, in the appropriate "AccessID" field or fields, type the access ID for the permission that you created in step 4.
For grids, you can type the access ID in the AddAccesID field to let users add records to the grid, the EditAccessID to let users edit records in the grid, and DeleteAccessID to let users delete records from the grid. For all other controls, you can type the access ID in the EditAccessID field to let users use the control. You can find a control's access ID in the Permissions tree Access Control. Browse through the tree to the permission that you want under the correct access group . The permission's access ID is displayed to the right of its name.
  10. Click Save.
