parent parcel

A parcel that has been divided into two or more smaller ones, or a parcel that has been joined with one or more parcels to create a larger one. When you divide a parcel, the original parcel becomes the "parent" and the smaller parcels become the "children." Likewise, when you join multiple parcels, they become the "parents" and the new, larger parcel becomes the "child." This hierarchy assists you in managing information associated with your parcels as they undergo legal or geographic changes.
