cash drawer
(1) A solid metal box attached to a point of sale system that
opens when directed to do so by the software, such as at the completion of a
sale. Cash drawers come in a variety of sizes, some with media slots in the
front for credit card slips or checks. (2) A record for an instance of a drawer
being used by a cashier during a shift to collect payments. Cash drawers are
used to track all cashiering payments.
