Notifications

The notification functionality in Infor Public Sector is designed for related applications such as Infor Public Sector Mobile and Infor Rhythm for Civics. For example, users of the Infor Field Inspector mobile app can send notifications regarding inspections to customers. You can also use workflow formulas to send notifications from within Infor Public Sector.

Notifications consist of several different pieces. First, you must define one or more notification types using the Notification Type code definition. Note that one notification type, INSPSTSUPD (inspection status update), is defined by default. This is used to send notifications from the mobile app.

Note: See the Infor Public Sector Mobile Administration Guide for more information about configuring notifications for the mobile app.

Next, your notification types must be added to the Hansen8 configuration in the Configuration Editor. The NOTIFICATIONS node is used to configure notification types, notification methods, such as text and email, and providers. Providers are the applications that are responsible for sending notifications using the different methods. You can also use the NOTIFICATIONS node to enable or disable notifications, either globally or for specific notification methods. Again, the INSPSTSUPD notification type is configured by default.

See NOTIFICATIONS node.

To send emails, you must also use the EMAIL node of the Hansen8 configuration to specify your agency's email settings. For SMS text messages, Infor Public Sector uses Twilio. To send text messages, use the Twilio node under the NOTIFICATIONS > Providers node to specify your Twilio account settings.

Note: Twilio is a third-party application, so you must create your own account to use it to send text messages. There is a small charge for every text message that is sent using Twilio. If you do not want to use Twilio, you have the option of setting up a custom provider.

For each notification type in the Hansen8 configuration, you can specify a notification template to use for each supported notification method. Notification templates specify the format and default text for text messages and emails, and can also include placeholders for values such as the contact's name and address. You can also use a placeholder for the message itself. To create notification templates, use the Notification Templates form in Infor Public Sector.

Finally, you can use the Contact InfoViewer to specify contacts' notification preferences. Using the Notifications tab, you can specify each notification type that a contact would like to receive, and the preferred notification method.

Note that you are not required to add notification types to the Notifications tab for a contact to receive notifications. When sending a notification, Infor Public Sector first checks the contact's notification preferences, and uses the specified notification method for the notification type. If the notification type is not defined for the contact, Infor Public Sector uses the default notification method that is specified in the Hansen8 configuration. If no default method is specified, then the notification is not sent.
