Attaching a lane to a roadway

  1. Load the roadway you want into the Roadway InfoViewer.
  2. In the feature list, right-click anywhere to the right of the lane symbol for the correct lane type, and select Add new item of this type.
The Lane Definition dialog box is displayed. The fields in the dialog box depend on your agency's roadway setup and may vary for different lane types.
Note: If the lane type is not in the list, you can add it by modifying the feature list.
  3. Specify this information:
    Value
If your agency requires a value, specify an identifying number or name for the lane. This field may only be required for certain lane types. If you specify a value for a lane attached along a range, the value is displayed in the lane's range bar in the feature diagram. If you specify a value for a lane attached at a single point, the value is displayed when you rest your mouse pointer on the lane's point symbol in the feature diagram. If the lane does not have a value, the lane is assigned the next available identification number and that value is shown.
    Start Distance
Specify the location or starting measurement of the attribute along the roadway. If attaching the lane at a single point, such as a turn lane, specify its precise location on the roadway. If attaching the lane along a range, such as a carpool lane, specify the starting measurement for the range.
    End Distance
If attaching the lane along a range, specify its ending measurement. This field is only displayed for lane types that can be attached along a range.
    Offset
If attaching the lane at a point, specify the lane's distance from the center of the roadway. Use zero as the center of the roadway, negative numbers to denote the distance from the center to the left, and positive numbers to denote the distance from the center to the right. For example, if the lane is 5 feet from the center of the roadway to the left, specify -5.
    Right of Way Position
If your agency tracks the lane's right of way position, specify the code.
  4. Specify any other information about the lane's location on the roadway.
You can specify the dates that the lane's attachment is effective, add comments about the attachment, or change the units of measure for any distance fields. The units that are initially displayed reflect the top ruler units assigned to the roadway in the Roadway InfoViewer Preferences dialog box, but you can use different units for the current lane. You can also select a distance marker instead of a unit of measure to indicate the lane's location. If your agency tracks additional, personalized information about this type of lane, specify that information in the lower half of the dialog box.
  5. Click Save.
Infor Public Sector adds the lane to the feature diagram in the row to the right of the corresponding lane type. If the lane is attached along a range, a bar is displayed in the feature diagram showing a value that you specify or that Infor Public Sector assigned. If the lane is attached at a specific point, a point symbol is displayed in the feature diagram. You can rest your mouse pointer on the symbol to view the lane's value.
