Meter Management overview
Meter readings are used to calculate customers' water bills in Infor Public Sector Billing, so it is important to have complete and correct reading data.
To manage reading data, Infor Public Sector organizes your water meters into routes, which in turn are grouped into cycles. A meter route is an ordered list of meters to be read. Within the route, meters are identified based on the addresses where they're installed, with each meter occupying a unique position number. A cycle is a group of routes that are processed together in Infor Public Sector Billing.
Meter readings can be entered manually, but more often they are recorded by an external system and then imported in a batch process. In most cases you will first export one or more routes, providing the external reading system with a list of meters to be read.
After the routes are read, the readings are returned in a separate data file so they can be imported into Infor Public Sector. You can also create a self import, which imports readings without a prior export.
After you have the reading data, you can review the readings to ensure that they are correct. You can review readings in various ways, such as comparing the readings for the current billing cycle with the previous cycle, or with the same cycle last year. Infor Public Sector uses color codes to flag readings that require attention, such as readings that are abnormally high or abnormally low. Infor Public Sector can also create service requests to re-read meters as required.
Finally, if no reading is available, you can create an estimate. When you estimate a reading, Infor Public Sector calculates the estimate based on the rules defined in a usage estimate setup.
