Defining reader codes and problem codes

You can use meter reader codes and problem codes to record irregular circumstances about meter readings. For example, you might use a reader code to indicate that a meter couldn't be read, or you could use problem codes to indicate conditions that require further attention, such as meter malfunctions or tampering.

You can set background and text colors for each code to highlight problematic readings when you later review meter readings. You can also associate a request type and an activity with each reader code or problem code. You can then create a service request or work order for the affected meter, such as a request for a re-read or a work order to fix a malfunctioning meter.

Note: Infor Public Sector doesn't enforce a precise definition of a reader code or a problem code. These codes provide two different ways to record circumstances around a meter reading that may require further attention. If a code isn't marked as an exception, then it is merely informational.
  1. Open the Meter Reader Code popup or the Meter Problem Code popup.

Click the popup button to the right of the Reader Code or Problem Code field.

Both fields are displayed when you record a meter reading using the Meter InfoViewer. The Reader Code field is also displayed when you record a meter reading using Install Meter or Exchange Meter.

  2. Click Add above the grid.
  3. Type a name for the code in the Code field.
  4. Type a description of the code in the Description field.
  5. Provide any other information about the meter code.
You can specify effective and expire dates for the code, and specify colors that Infor Public Sector will use to show the reading when it is reviewed. For example, if a meter malfunctioned during a reading, you may want that reading to be displayed in yellow text with a red background. To specify colors, click the Text Color and Background Color buttons and select the colors you want from the palettes. The default colors are black text and white background.
For reader codes, you can also indicate that a reading with a particular code should be marked as estimated, or that it should be marked as ready to bill after a specified number of hours.
  6. To associate a service request type or activity with the code, select Exception and specify the correct information in the Request Type field or the Work Order Activity field.
Checking Exception directs Infor Public Sector to list any readings with this code on the Exceptions tab in the Review Meter Readings form. This list is for meters that might require some type of service. You can then create a service request or work order for the meter, such as a request to repair or inspect a faulty meter.
  7. Click Save.
