Recording a meter reading

You can use the Life History tab on the Meter InfoViewer to record initial, standard, or final readings of a meter. You can designate a reading as estimated, identify special circumstances for a reading, adjust billable usage, and let Infor Public Sector know that the meter is ready to bill. You can also view a history of readings for a meter.

  1. Load the meter record you want into the Meter InfoViewer.
  2. On the Life History tab, under Usage, click Details.
  3. Click Add above the grid.
  4. Ensure that the correct date and time are displayed in the Reading Date field.
Note: A meter can't have two readings with the same date and time. Infor Public Sector uses the reading date to distinguish the previous reading from the current reading and calculate accumulated usage.
  5. Specify the current meter reading in the Reading field or click Record Zero Reading.
Because the default value for the Reading field is 0.00, clicking the link indicates that you've deliberately entered a reading of 0.00. Clicking the link also replaces any value in the field with 0.00.
Note: If you're reading a compound meter with two single registers, Infor Public Sector shows two fields: High Register Reading and Low Register Reading. The total reading is the sum of these two values.
  6. If this meter reading is part of a billing cycle, check Cycle.
  7. Specify any other information about the initial meter reading.
You can click Calculate Usage to see the meter's accumulated usage, billable usage, and average daily usage since its previous reading. You can specify a code in the Reader Code or Problem Code field to record any irregular circumstances about a meter reading, such as a meter malfunction or suspected meter tampering. The reader or problem code might direct Infor Public Sector to highlight the reading in a certain color when it is reviewed using Review Meter Readings. Each code can also have a request type and an activity associated with it, indicating the type of service request or work order that should be created to address the situation. Depending on your access rights, you can define new codes from the popup for the Reader Code field or the Problem Code field. You can also check Estimate if you can't get an accurate reading, such as if the meter is obscured or has been tampered with. If you're ready to bill the meter's customer for this usage, check Ready to Bill. If there has been no change in the meter reading, click Bill Zero Usage to indicate that the meter's customer should not be charged for this reading.
  8. Click Save.
Infor Public Sector records the meter reading and shows it in the grid. Infor Public Sector calculates the account's usage, billable usage, and average daily usage. Account usage equals the amount accumulated on the meter since its last reading. Billable usage equals account usage, unless that value was adjusted before saving. If this reading was added between two existing readings, Infor Public Sector adjusts usage in any readings taken after this reading. If you indicated that the account was ready to bill, Infor Public Sector sends the usage information to your agency's billing application. Note that if the reading is lower than the previous reading by at least 10%, Infor Public Sector first shows a message asking if this is the first reading after a rollover. Rolling over a meter means that the meter has exceeded its maximum reading value and has been reset to 0.00. Click Yes or No to continue.
