Credit for negative consumption

If the newest unbilled reading for an account is less than the last billed reading, Infor Public Sector will credit the account for the negative consumption.

For example, the previous reading may have been misread or overestimated. The account will have been overbilled based on the excessive consumption amount, so a credit is due.

To calculate the credit, Infor Public Sector first recalculates the billable usage for the previous bill based on the current usage reading. The adjusted consumption amount is then run through the rate table that was in effect at the time of the previous bill. This returns the amount that would have been charged for the line item if the correct billable usage had been used. Finally, the original line item amount is subtracted from the adjusted line item amount to determine the amount of the credit.

Infor Public Sector also calculates a line item for the current bill with a billable usage of 0 units. This is so that any base charges or minimum charges defined in the rate table can be applied.

Minimum charges are also considered when calculating the amount of the credit. For example, if a credit of $25 is calculated on a line item with a minimum charge of $10, the customer will receive a credit of $15.
