Direct debit

Direct debit is the familiar process in which customers' payments are transmitted directly from their bank accounts.

There are two types of direct debit plans in Infor Public Sector:

  • On a cycle plan, direct debit payments are transmitted either on a monthly cycle or on each bill's due date.

You can define from zero to four direct debit cycles in Direct Debit Setup. If you define no cycles, then direct debit payments are transmitted on the bill's due date. If you define from one to four cycles, then each account is assigned to a cycle, and direct debit payments are transmitted on a specified day of the month.

  • On a direct debit schedule, a predetermined payment amount is transmitted on a fixed schedule. You define the terms of the schedule when an account signs up for direct debit.

Because the debited amount in a direct debit schedule is an estimate, you also have the option of increasing the amount as required to fully pay any bills that are due on or before the next scheduled transmit date.

A direct debit run is a batch process in which Infor Public Sector creates payments for accounts that have been set up to pay bills by direct debit. Infor Public Sector will also create a payment batch for the payments and the ACH (Automated Clearing House) file that is used to send direct debit information to the bank.

If an account has multiple direct debit plans, with different effective and expire dates, Infor Public Sector uses the plan that is effective on the bill's due date.

You can set up Infor Public Sector to generate direct debit runs automatically using the Batch Manager, or you can use Create Direct Debit Run to generate a run manually. Note that if you create a run manually, Infor Public Sector still adds a task for the run to the Batch Manager.
